The story
Carrie Underwood won the fourth season of American Idol in 2005 and then did what almost no reality-show winner manages: built a durable career, with Some Hearts becoming the best-selling solo female debut in country history. She has been a Grand Ole Opry member since 2008 and has taken country's traditional vocal power in a distinctly modern, arena-scaled direction. 'Before He Cheats' and 'Blown Away' remain fixtures of the format.
