The story
Billy Strings learned flatpicking from his stepfather in rural Michigan, played in metal bands as a teenager, and now sells out arenas with a bluegrass quartet and no drummer. His live shows stretch traditional material into Grateful Dead–length improvisation, which has pulled a young jam-band audience into a form most of them had written off. Me/And/Dad, recorded with the man who taught him, won a Grammy.
